Situated 107 km to the northwest of Faro, is built on the eastern slope of a hill overlooking the River Aljezur. Founded by the Arabs, was conquered by Paio Peres Correia. The River Aljezur waters are fertile fields which produce rice and other cereals, the best sweet--potatoes of the country and the famous melons of Aljezur.
